今回、せんくらで演奏するサラサーテの「ツィゴイネルワイゼン」と「カルメン幻想曲」は、皆さんにもお馴染みの名曲かと思います。
作曲者のサラサーテは、美しい音色と超人的なテクニックによって、天才という名をほしいままにしたヴァイオリンの名手でした。他にヴァイオリンの名手として歴史的に有名なヴァイオリニストといえば、パガニーニがいます。（最近パガニーニの映画が公開されましたね。） 2人はだいたい100年程時代が違うのですが、ともに伝説的ヴァイオリニストで超絶技巧曲を多く作曲していることで有名です。
サラサーテとパガニーニ、どちらの曲も演奏するのに高度な技術がいるのですが、その技巧的な面で、とても興味深くて大きな違いがひとつあるということを最近知りました。それはサラサーテの曲は手が小さい方が弾きやすく、パガニーニの曲は手が大きい方が弾きやすいという事です。言われてみれば確かにサラサーテの曲は、とても高いポジションの狭いところで細かく素早く指を動かすという箇所が多く、パガニーニの曲は、それよりもとにかく精一杯手を広げて指を伸ばして演奏するという印象があります。
なんでこのような違いが生まれるかというと、サラサーテの手はとても小さく、一方パガニーニの手はとても大きかった事が理由のようです。両者とも自分の体の特徴を生かせるように、曲を作曲したのですね。
僕の手はというと…小さくはないと思いますが、大きくもないですね笑
