留学して帰国したての時の最初の仕事の話である。
それはピアノの弦の間にボルトやスクリューを挟んで音を変調させる「準備されたピアノ」＝「プリペアードピアノ」の演奏の依頼であった。
会場は5000人位入るホールで、2人の歌手のコンサートであったが、ほかのメンバーは確か弦楽器5人、ピアニスト一人、あと「プリペアードピアノ」を演奏する私であった。
ジョン・ケージというアメリカの作曲家がいるが、彼はある時にダンスの伴奏で、打楽器アンサンブルのための曲を依頼されたが、打楽器を調達するお金がないということで困り果てていたその時に、ピアノの弦の間にボルトやスクリューを挟んでみたら、ガムランの音のような打楽器のような音がして、おまけに一つ一つ音程や音色が違うために、沢山の種類の、複数の打楽器を一度に持ったような感じになったそうです。おまけに演奏者はピアニスト一人、アンサンブルも完璧・・・ということでこれはいい！となり、それに作曲をして、ダンスの公演でも使用したというところから始まったらしいです。
さて、私も帰国後最初の仕事なので意気揚々と5000人の大会場へ向かって、楽屋口から入場しました。楽屋にはもちろん各々の楽器の名前の書かれた張り紙があって、「ヴァイオリン○○○様」、「チェロ○○○様」、などとあり、その次には「ピアノ○○○様」とあったのでとうとう私の楽屋だ・・・と思ってみると
「プリペイドピアノ 中川様」
と書いてあった。
んんんんん？プリペイド？前払いピアノ？先に謝礼をいただけるのかな？・・・と
もしかして先に謝礼をいただいたら帰ってもいいのかな？
こうやって帰国後最初の私の職種は「プリペイドピアニスト」＝「前払いピアニスト」
中川賢一となったのであった・・・
なかなか知られていない楽器の場合よくこういうことはあります。
もちろん主催者を責めることはいたしませんでした。
